In this moment of collective shock, loss, and anxiety about our shared future, we stand in solidarity with our families, colleagues, and communities.
The outcome of the presidential election is a devastating blow to those who believe in a future defined by our common humanity and the principles of decency, hope, and the collective good. We are concerned that the years ahead promise to be a doubling down of the chaos and destruction we all endured from 2016 to 2020, with structural and institutional violence directed at communities of color, impacting families, immigrants, LGBTQIA+ people, and all who have struggled to make ends meet under a system favoring the wealthy and powerful.
A commitment to justice.
As funders with disproportionate power and resources, it is incumbent upon us to directly call out injustices if we hope to ever reverse them.
At Stupski, we refuse to retreat. We will plow ahead, investing everything we have to ensure our communities have comprehensive health care and caregiver support; sustainable, equitable, and nourishing food ecosystems; and access to quality higher education and job training. Shoulder to shoulder, we will continue to stand with our partners, resource them with our full endowment, and invest in their leadership and wellness.
We remain forever committed to equity and justice in every aspect of our philanthropy.
A duty to act.
After months of uncertainty and national division, we know one thing for sure: Fear should never motivate us. It’s the transcendent force of love and the recognition of our shared humanity that inspires and sustains us. Together, we must build new connections, broaden our coalitions, reinvigorate our networks, and get to work.
Once again, we must choose between starkly different futures: one of fear, division, control, and self-interest and the other offering unity, joy, freedom, and collective well-being. We choose the latter.
For far too long, philanthropy has perpetuated the very systems that have fed into the inequalities that have led us here while also stockpiling power and resources for fear of a rainy day. That day is here, and it is our duty as philanthropists to honor our missions in support of communities.
Funders must meet this moment by committing to a historic shift of wealth and power to the people and communities that the incoming administration will target most. Let’s unite in holding ourselves accountable to take the bold action necessary to ensure we move our society forward.
